Ms. Curtis has more than 28 years of experience providing financial management services to business and government. She is responsible for the firm’s strategic direction, business development, and the quality assurance function. Prior to founding T. Curtis, Ms. Curtis co-founded the former Thompson, Curtis & Bazilio & Associates.

Ms. Curtis is a graduate of the University of Maryland where she earned a BS degree in Accounting and Business Administration. She completed post graduate courses towards her MBA at George Washington University. Ms. Curtis serves on a number of civic and corporate boards, including Prince Georges County Spending and Affordability Committee, Prince Georges County Financial Services Corporation, and SKY Neurological Rehabilitation. Ms. Curtis is a member and past Treasurer of Greater Leadership Washington and Community Services Coalition.

Joseph Peterson
President and Managing Partner

Mr. Peterson has over 20 years of experience providing and directing advisory and consulting services to private sector clients and Federal Government Departments and their respective Offices of Inspectors General. He was primarily responsible for the successful delivery of client services provided including oversight on accounting and related issues, overall project management and contract administration, quality assurance, and final issuance of all deliverables and reports.

His specific experience with Federal governmental entities includes: CFO Act audits, auditability assessments, Credit Reform Act, internal control assessments, performance auditing, FFMIA, FMFIA reviews (A-123 and A-127), compliance and financial audits in accordance with Government Auditing Standards, and developing and assessing accounting systems and related internal controls. Mr. Peterson has significant experience and expertise in performing financial, performance and compliance audits; grant audits; contract audits; program results reviews; and other similar reviews, assessments and assistance.

Prior to joining T. Curtis, Mr. Peterson served for more than 20 years, in a variety of roles, with UHY Advisors, Inc. (formerly known as Urbach Kahn & Werlin, PC). From 1995 through 2007, Mr. Peterson served as the Managing Office Partner of UHY’s Washington, DC office, and National Director of UHY’s Public Sector practice.

Mr. Peterson is a graduate of the State University of New York at Plattsburgh where he earned a BS degree in Accounting. Mr. Peterson is a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Government Financial Manager. He serves, or has recently served, on numerous civic and corporate boards and is the founder of the Joseph L. Peterson Scholarship Endowment Fund and the Joseph L. Peterson Accounting Lab.

Anthony Chestnut, CIA, CISA, CGFM

Mr. Chestnut has more than 20 years of experience in financial management, government accounting, auditing and business consulting. Mr. Chestnut’s responsibilities include providing executive level oversight of T. Curtis & Company's consulting engagements, new business development and providing support for the firm’s general operations. Prior to joining T. Curtis & Company, Mr. Chestnut served in management positions at IBM Business Consulting, PricewaterhouseCoopers, the Comptroller of the Currency and the former Thompson, Curtis, Bazilio & Associates.

Mr. Chestnut developed his auditing skills as a Senior Audit Manager at First American Bankshares. He received a BS degree in Finance from North Carolina A&T State University. Mr. Chestnut obtained certifications as a Certified Internal Auditor, Certified Information Systems Auditor and a Certified Government Financial Manager. He is a member of Association of Government Accountants and past President of the Information Systems Audit Control Association.

Harriet L. Smith

Ms. Smith is responsible for overseeing the administrative functions of the firm, including human resources management, information systems, and facilities management. Before joining T. Curtis, Ms. Smith held positions at the Maryland State Department of Education, the University of Maryland at Baltimore and the Prince George’s County Health Department.

Ms. Smith holds a BA degree in Psychology from Hampton University, and a Master’s degree in General Administration from University College, University of Maryland.
Additionally, she is currently a doctoral candidate at The George Washington University.
